The USA’s #1 OE fitted alternator in heavy duty applications, about to take Australia by storm.
The Delco Remy 28SI alternator has been taking the lion’s share of the OE trucking business in the USA. With manufacturers including Kenworth, Freightliner, and Peterbilt trucks and Volvo Navistar buses, the 28SI is fitted to over 80000 new applications every year, making it the number one alternator in OE heavy duty applications. With modern technology, high performance and efficiency in a compact and lightweight design, the moderately-priced 28SI represents terrific value for money, which is why it is so popular with the OE manufacturers.
While the 28SI has been available in Australia for some time, take up of this product has been slower than in the USA, with some resistance to the “bird cage” design of the 28SI. However this design, with its dual fans and high efficiency, actually represents a much better value for money proposition than some of the older styles of alternators popular amongst fleet owners. So as fleets chase lower operating costs, the lower cost price of the 28SI and lower running costs due to higher efficiency is generating a growing interest for this product, and demand is increasing.
The 28SI high output alternator to address vehicle applications that require higher electrical output, but also want lower weight, improved temperature capability, and fuel savings. Vehicles, such as school buses, not using a premium high output alternator will likely experience premature failures due to high under-hood engine temperatures.

About Remote Sense Alternators
Remote Sense can reduce battery charge time by 50%. The 28SI is equipped with Remote Sense which utilizes a second wire that reads the actual voltage at the battery. This signals the alternator to boost its output to compensate for the voltage drop, ensuring 14 Volts at the battery. The proper voltage forces more current into the battery bringing it to a full state of charge between vehicle stops.
